Category archives: Engagements

Kat and Ash are fellow wedding photographers and I promised them a few photos for their website since we became friends last year. So this session was kinda that but it snowballed into a couple portrait session because sometimes I just need to do some photos for me – to let off some creative steam and just shoot the work that’s in my head.

I wanted to go big and so we did – setting off late on Monday night for the Sussex coast (about 1.5 hours drive from where we live!). The weather had been pretty dodgy all day but I had a hunch that it was going to come good and boy did it… we were fortunate enough to get one of the most epic sunsets I’ve seen for a while. Better still I got an evening with two of the nicest people out there! It was so good for my soul. These times are my happy place for sure. Everything was just magic!

Thanks Ash and Kat – you are leg-ends!

A couple of weeks ago I got an email from Mev – who had found me online – in her hunt for a wedding photographer! We chatted on the phone and I knew straight away herself and Billy were just the sort of people I love to work with. They really liked my natural, relaxed approach to photography and that there is a good absence of cheese, so I knew we would be a good match!

So I was more than happy when they asked me to go to their home town of Sheffield for their engagement photos (especially come November it’s definitely quieter for us wedding photographers!). I thought it would be a fun day out and a great way to get to know them and go back to a city I used to go to quite often in my university days so have a bit of soft spot for!

I’m glad I trusted my instinct and made the journey as I really loved hanging out with Mev and Billy. They are just really really nice, down-to-earth, people – so easy to be with you and really so happy together. We had a good few hours wondering around the city centre and as a bonus Sheffield served up some gorgeous autumnal sunshine – hurrah! Just when I thought it couldn’t have got any better we finished up the afternoon with pizza (that’s the way to my heart!!)

I can’t wait for their wedding in Liverpool next year – it’s going to be awesome!

Hope you like these Sheffield city centre engagement photos!

Box Hill Portraits – Pip & Ryan

On Saturday I spent some time with the awesomely lovely Pip & Ryan on Box Hill, Surrey. If you’ve not been to Box Hill before you should go – it’s a beautiful spot and provides amazing views across the Surrey Hills!

Ryan had surprised Pip with a portrait session as a birthday present and it also happened to be their 10 year wedding anniversary (huge congratulations to them both!) this year too – so they had lots of good reasons to grab some photos!

It was so so fantastic to see two people so happy and in love ten years on! We had such a laugh and we got some of the most awesome Autumn light this country can serve up! I loved our time together – it really reminded me how much I love what I do. So I couldn’t help but share a few here!

I hope you enjoy these Box Hill portraits!

For photographers these were shot on a combination of the Canon 24mmL and 85mmL, with a couple on the Sigma 50mm ART.

Brighton Beach with Bethany & Josh

Bethany and Josh kindly volunteered to let me, and several other professional wedding photographers, take photos of them as part of a photographers gathering we had back at the beginning of October.

It was pretty cold. In fact probably very cold. It started raining half way through. And so we got wet. But hey we were in one of my favourite places and most of all we still had fun. Brighton never disappoints – come rain or shine!

These guys are honestly two of the nicest people who live in Brighton, in fact the whole of the UK. It was a dream to photograph them. This was an engagement type shoot, but not an engagement shoot, as they’re not engaged. So we’re call it a couple portrait shoot for now! My guess is seeing how super perfect they are for each other then maybe they’ll have an engagement session one day! ūüėČ

I couldn’t have asked for more from them – Bethany and Josh were amazing and just such nice people! We loved having them along! Thanks so much to them for getting soggy for us and for hanging out with us! And I must mention that Bethany is also a clever lady at producing beautiful bridal accessories – check out Opheliabea¬†here!

Here are a few of my favourites from our mini Brighton ‘engagement’ shoot!

I had been really excited to meet Clark and Sarah ever since they got in touch back in January about their July wedding. They were really keen to have an engagement session (aka ‘pre-wedding shoot’) and we totally struck gold with the weather. May has been a bit rubbish weather wise so far but it came good for our session!

Clark and Sarah live in Kingston so it made sense to do their session there. We had a great couple of others down by the river and culminating at Bushy Park for sunset!

They were both so relaxed in front of the camera and there is a lot of love between them so my job was easy! We had a great time getting to know each more and talking about the impending wedding. As a wedding photographer Surrey this is one of the many reasons I do love doing pre-wedding sessions. They are a win-win on so many levels!

Thanks Clark and Sarah, you did great! I can’t wait for the wedding in 7 weeks!

Last night I met up with the awesome Blue and Amy for their Surrey pre-wedding shoot. These guys get married in just under 4 weeks in Suffolk and I cannot wait. I’ve known Amy for a few years via her awesome brother Dave (whose wedding I did in 2013 to the lovely Hannah!) but I hadn’t met her fine man Blue before. It was clear from our session there is a lot of love going on here – which was so lovely to witness. So much chemistry and connection – my job was easy. I love photographing couples just before their wedding. It adds so much anticipation to the day and the excitement for what is just round the corner.

Great job Blue and Amy! Thank you for being so fantastic to shoot. Bring on 30th May! It’s going to be one to remember I know!

Here are a few favourites from our time together last night.

This was such a magical setting, made even more perfect by one of the finest April evenings England can serve. Not a cloud in the sky. No wind. Just wonderful. Broadway Tower is one of the most beautiful locations in the Cotswolds and made for an ideal place for some portraits for Becky & Gareth. Married last year, they were keen to get some relaxed, casual photos at a place special to them.

We had a lot of fun and I really loved this session. Gareth kept us all entertained and in good spirits! Thanks guys for inviting me to such an awesome part of the country and being so easy to work with!

Here are my favourite Broadway Tower engagement photos. Enjoy!

Jamie and Vicki are two of the nicest people I’ve honestly ever met in my life. In fact I have decided recently all the couples I get from Brighton are always super nice. I would happily be just a Brighton Wedding Photographer! I was so chuffed when they asked me to shoot their Brighton wedding last year. It’s no surprise then I’ve been really looking forward to their Brighton Beach wedding pre shoot. I love love doing wedding pre shoots and wedding pre shoots in Brighton are amongst my favourite – the sun always seem to shine for me and I love the backdrops! People always ask whether having an engagement shoot (aka the wedding pre-shoot) is worth it and I would say it totally is as it gives us time to get to know each other, have some fun and gives the bride and groom a unique set of photos as a little bonus over and above their wedding photos to treasure. Let’s be honest once you’re married there’s often not a real scenario again when you get the opportunity in life!

So here’s a little offer – if anyone books me now for their wedding photography in 2015, before end of August 2014, I will throw in a wedding pre-shoot for free – a nice little saving of ¬£250! ¬†¬†I offer wedding photography in Surrey, Sussex, Kent, London, Herts, Essex and all round he UK. So do get in touch if you’d like to talk more!

But for now sit back and enjoy this set from Jamie and Vicki on Brighton Beach and their own wedding pre-shoot photos. Thanks Jamie and Vicki for being so awesome! Bring on your wedding next month at South Lodge Hotel!

Laura and Lane are a little bit special. In May these guys get married at exactly the same place I got married almost 6 years ago. It’ll be amazing to go back to Wotton House. Also I have known Laura for over 10 years from my university days. The fact that her and Lane now live in Oklahoma, USA. That we share the same love for a London football team. The list goes on!

Just before Christmas last year they popped over for a brief visit to the UK, so I caught up with them at Laura’s home town of Southend for a few pre-wedding frames. We had a great time and the sun even came out – result!
